As many as 37 Government primary schools of Sundargarh district were closed recently due to less than 10 students in each of the school. After summer vacation, the students of these schools will go to nearby schools for studying there.
According to sources, the State Government had recently decided that 966 Government schools in Odisha will be closed due to low strength of students in these schools. 37 such schools in Sundargarh district were identified and the Sundargarh Collector recently approved closure of these schools, having ten or less than 10 students.
The classes of these primary schools were from Class I to Class V. The students of these closed 37 schools can go to nearby schools or hostels for studying there.
The Government, meanwhile, has announced that the students who will go 1.5 km distance from their residence for studying will get Rs 600 escort allowance for 10 months in a year.
Significantly, 61 Government primary schools of Sundargarh district had been closed during the year 2016, due to less than 10 students.
