As many as 37 of 314 blocks now running without regular Block Development Officers (BDOs) now, according to information furnished in the State Assembly by Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Pradeep Maharathy on Tuesday.
In response to a question of BJD MlA Prabhat Ranjan Biswal, the Minister too informed that 133 of 314 Additional BDO posts, 58 of 314 Gram Panchayat Extension Officer posts, 132 of 314 Assistant Engineer (Degree) posts, 165 of 426 Assistant Engineer (Diploma) posts and 353 of 835 Junior Engineer (JE) posts in the Panchayati Raj Department are lying vacant.
Steps are being taken to fill up the vacant post through deputation, promotion and direct recruitments he said.In a related question of BJD MlA Aswini Kumar Patra, the Minister informed the House that a total of 1,705 Contractual Junior Engineer (GPTA) are working in blocks now and the proposal for appointing them as regular employees is under active consideration of the Government.
