A total 36,779 candidates have won uncontested in the panchayat polls due to filing of single nominations, informed State Election Commission (SEC) Secretary Rabindra Nath Sahu here on Saturday.
While 36,222 candidates got victorious as ward members, 209 won uncontested as sarpanche, 347 as samiti members and one as zilla parishad member.
Earlier, the SEC office had notified a final list of 1,89,099 candidates, who are in the panchayat poll fray after the deadline for nomination withdrawal ended on January 21.
Meanwhile, political parties have intensified their campaigning across the State to woo voters towards them. While BJP and Congress State-level leaders have already started campaigning party candidates, BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is yet to join the campaign trail.
