34,215 persons died in road mishaps in 10 yrs

As many as 34,215 persons have died in a total number of 88,036 road accidents in the last 10 years in the State.Transport Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi informed this in the Assembly in a written reply to a question of BJP MlA KV Singh Deo on Saturday.On the basis of the data available from the SP of CID and Crime Branch, Cuttack, the Minister said while 2531 persons had died in 2005, 2,745 persons died 2006, 3,000 in 2007, 3079 in 2008, 3,527 in 2009, 3837 in 2010, 3802 in 2011, 3701 in 2012, 4062 in 2013 and 3,931 persons died 2014.

During the 10 year period, 49,610 persons had been grievously injured and 59,021 sustained minor injuries.In 2014, 9,648 accidents had occurred in which properties worth `69,87,76,192 damaged apart from the deaths, informed the Minister.The Transport Department has not provided any ex gratia to the families of the dead and the injured of the road accident, he said.
