Elderly patients can avail special treatment at geriatric clinics across the State as 34 such health centres are proposed to be set up under the National Health Mission (NHM).
A Health Department official said the clinics would operate at 34 Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs) in five cities and towns of the State. As many as 16 clinics for Bhubaneswar, seven for Cuttack, eight for Sambalpur, two for Rourkela and one clinic for Brahmapur have been proposed.
No separate buildings will be constructed for the clinics as these will function at pre-established UPHCs, the official said.
While medicine specialists will be available in the clinics once in a week, elderly patients can get physiotherapy treatment thrice in a week.
Equipments for physiotherapy will be procured under National Programme for Healthcare of Elderly.
While major costs for running these clinics will be borne by the Central Government, the rest will be shared by the State Government.
