The BJP on Sunday claimed that its membership has crossed the 30 lakh mark in Odisha and expected to add 10 lakh more members before the deadline of April 30 for the drive. According to co-convener of the membership drive committee of State BJP Pratap Sadangi, so far more than 30 lakh members have been enrolled.
With an aim to enrol a total of 40 lakh members in next 11 days, party members at the block and district levels are busy creating awareness among people about the pro-people programmes launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said. Celebrating the achievement of enrolment of 30 lakh new members, senior party leaders including those from its women’s wing distributed sweets to each other and burst crackers at the State party office here.
Sadangi said most of the members have been enrolled by means of mobile phones through toll-free number 1800-266-2020 launched for registration in the membership drive. Besides, four to five lakh have already registered their names through other means. Three lakh active party members would move door to door from May 1 for verification of membership of the people, who have registered their names through mobile SMS. It would take two months to complete the whole process, he said. During this period, another 30,000 active members of the party would do the final validation after verification to register genuine members in the party.
