Kendrapada district Collector Promod Kumar Das informed that nearly 300 people of the sea erosion-prone Satabhaya gram panchayat were shifted to the Okilapala cyclone center with the help of NDRF personnel on Saturday.
According to official sources, Rajnagar Tehsildar Khirod Kumar Behera with the help of NDRF personnel evacuated as many as 180 people of Satabhaya whereas 120 others came to the cyclone shelter on their own.
The sources said steps have been taken to evacuate 2,500 people more of the Satabhaya area before the Cyclone Hudhud hits the Andhra-Odisha coast on Sunday.
“We are keeping a close eye on the possible cyclonic storm. If circumstances demand we will evacuate Satabhaya people on tomorrow morning,” said the Tehsildar.
