The Rajya Bidyut Upavokta Mahasangha, Bhubaneswar on Saturday demanded that power tariff be reduced by 30 per cent for all categories of consumers in the State.
Addressing a Press conference here, mahsangha president Panchanan Kanungo and secretary Rabi Behera said while development of the State depends of quantum of use of power, the State Government has remained callous over power generation.
“Adequate quantum of power can be generated though water and air sources at low investments in the State and the same can be provided at affordable prices to farmers, MSME entrepreneurs and cold stores. But the State Government has remained callous in this regard,” said Behera.
Stating that economic condition of the State would be boosted once adequate power is generated through use of water and air, Behera called upon consumers to unite and fight for their rights to get quality and undisrupted power.
He said the current power tariffs have burdened consumers of all categories and hence be reduced by 30 per cent. He suggested that the power tariff of Rs 2.30 being charged per unit for first 50 units be reduced to Rs 1.60 and Rs 4 being charged for 150 units from 50 units to 200 units be reduced to Rs 2.80.
