More than 30 patients, admitted to the Kandhamal District Headquarters Hospital here, developed serious complications after they were administered with antibiotic injection on Sunday.
According to reports, the State Government had provided Edicef-SB antibiotic injections to the hospital for the patients suffering from cold and fever.
These injections, manufactured by Scott Edil Pharmacia ltd, a Himachal Pradesh-based pharmaceutical company and certified by the World Health Organisation (WHO), were supplied to the authorities to be provided free of cost to patients.
The injections were administered for the first time to patients on Sunday. Soon after, these patients developed serious complications. While some patients complained of head reeling and vomiting, the others were found shivering.
The hospital authorities, after examining the patients, ordered the doctors to stop administration of the injection to the remaining patients.
Of the 30 patients, the conditions of four patients were stated to be critical, hospital sources said. There was no threat to their lives, said health officials.
