The 30 migrant labourers, including 11 women and four children, of Belpada block of Balangir district on Thursday arrived safely at the Kantabanji railway station from Chotpal brick kiln near Hyderabad in Telangana State with support and facilitation by Aide et Action, an international development organisation.
The Aide et Action in Telangana and Tamil Nadu, motivated brick kiln owners to follow Covid appropriate behaviour at work sites and arranged their travel tickets in reservation compartments. Brick kilns are mostly located at outskirts of the city and not safe so far as contamination is concerned. “We motivated owners to create a protective environment at destination and send the people safely with reserved train ticket to avoid rush. We also arranged dry food and sanitization kits for each member during travel. Our volunteers are in regular contact with workers during travel.
We are counselling them for precaution and special care of children and women,” said Saroj Barik of Aide et Action “In the forthcoming time, we would strive to bring back around 5,000 labourers working in different brick kilns of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu safely to their homes,” said Barik further.
