The Commissionerate police detained over 30 Kalinga Sena activists and took them into preventive custody from outside their office at Baramunda here on Wednesday.
Sources said the outfit had threatened to hold protests against the Valentine’s Day celebrations in the city and warned the youngsters to stay away from celebrating the day.
The activists shouted slogans “We demand to stop celebrating Valentine’s Day” and further alleged that this celebration is against the Indian culture.
Even though the police had warned to such outfits and decided to act tough on such moral policing, the activists stuck to their decision to protest and warned that they would hamper the celebrations.
Meanwhile, some of the recreational parks in the city including Jaydev Vatika and Ekamra Kanan remained closed. Patrolling was intensified in other parks and near other sensitive places to prevent the agitating outfits from carrying out their threats.
