The Gajapati ITDA completed a ST and SC hostel three years ago but it was not handed over to the respective school. Garabanda based Sri Venkateswar High School is in a deplorable stage without minimum amenities. When under the Swachh Bharat programme, latrines and bathrooms in school premises are constructed in schools, this school stays ignored. The school with a strength of 373 students has no latrine.
From last three years, the post of headmaster is also lying vacant, whereas out of 18 sanctioned teaching posts, there are only eight teachers available. No teacher is available for Math and Science. The Hindi teacher is staying on leave for last many years.
To add insult to injury, a hostel for ST and SC students which was completed three years back is yet to be handed over to the school. Due to lack of hostel in this school, many students are staying in rented rooms. Many also drop out due to lack of hostel facility.
ITDA PA Parikhita Sethy said due to lack of electric poles, the hostel has not been electrified and so not handed over to the school. Notably, the students in the school are yet to get books though their classes have started after annual examinations.
