In a joint raid conducted by the Nayapalli police and Excise officials at Salia Sahi slum in the city on Thursday night, 10 people, including three women, were arrested for selling liquor illegally. The joint team also seized 560 kg of brewing material of alcohol worth Rs 1 lakh from the possession of the accused.
The accused were identified as Mangala Mohanta, Dharma Dungdung, lalung Murmu, Bruduni Murmu and Gita Soren of Idco Sahi, Manas Baske, Harish Soren, Dola Hansda and Bijay Murmu of Nilachakranagar Sahi and Soreng Marandi of Ekamravilla Sahi in the Salia Sahi area.
“Besides, we seized 50 litres of country-made liquor worth Rs 1 lakh from the possession of the accused,” Officer-in-charge of Excise department Samuel Ekka said.
The accused were forwarded to court after registration of a case against them.
