3 Public Prosecutors appointed for speedy trial of POSCO cases

The State Government has appointed three Special Public Prosecutors for speedy prosecution and punishment to those who commit crimes against children under the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police jurisdiction.

The appointments were made on the basis of the recommendation of the Commissioner of Police YB Khurania. Sidharth Das, Kailash Chandra Pattnaik and Chittaranjan Das would now fight three cases involving children.

“The Commissionerate police is giving top priority for proper investigation and prosecution of   culprits involved in heinous cases against girl child reported in Commissionerate police. Such heinous cases are being reviewed regularly at Commissionerate authorities and appropriate preventive measures are being taken accordingly,” said a communiqué issued by the Commissionerate Police.

The State may have moved a little slowly, but the appointment of Special Public Prosecutors would certainly be a boon and ensure swifter trials.

The appointment was done under a specific provision under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) that every State must appoint independent Special Public Prosecutors.
