Tension gripped Bajapur village under the Kakatpur police station in Puri district on Monday after three members of a family were seriously injured after they were attacked by members of another family at the village.

The two groups clashed over illegal liquor trade and land dispute at the village. The three injured persons belonged to neighbouring Kerendia village. They were injured when attacked by a bootlegger with a sword.

Following the incident, irate villagers of Kerendia staged a road blockade by burning tyres on the Kakatpur-Konark road demanding immediate arrest of the accused.

Meanwhile, all the injured people were shifted to the Capital Hospital here.

Nimapara DSP KK Jena rushed to the spot with a platoon of police force and managed to pacify the agitators. Meanwhile, police detained two persons for interrogation in connection with the incident.

Reports said the two families had a dispute over the possession of a piece of land at the village.

However, the situation tuned violent on Monday when a heated argument erupted between the two families and they attacked each other with sharp weapons.
