A three-member team of the elite National Security Guard (NSG) on Saturday visited the Jagannath temple here to conduct a security review of the 12th-century shrine, which is said to be on the radar of terror outfits.
The team, consisting top officials of the anti-terror squad from the NSG’s Hyderabad hub, visited crucial places within the temple.
The team surveyed sensitive locations in and outside the temple, including the Anand Bazaar, the Mukti Madap and also the watchtowers to take necessary steps to ward off or deal with any possible terror threat. The team also assessed the deployment of police forces at the entrances of the temple.
They also held discussions with the temple administration and local police in a bid to ensure security of the shrine.
Recently, the Jagannath Temple was referred to as an important and sensitive pilgrim centre of the country in a communication from the Central intelligence agencies to the State Government.
After that, the NSG is planning to enhance security by working out a coordinated action plan to tackle any eventuality.
