3-km flyover to come up in Joda town

To provide reliefs to Joda residents in Keonjhar district from road congestion and polluted air inhaling travel, a three-km-long three-lane flyover covering the whole mining town would be constructed soon.

The Union Government has approved a proposal of the State Government in this regard. The elevated corridor would come up at an estimated cost of `220 crore under the PPP mode.

Notably, roads in Joda remain congested and air-polluted all the time due to plying of as many as around 7,000 ore-laden trucks.

The Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) under the Ministry of Finance has agreed meet the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) of the project.

In addition, the Center has also approved Joda-Bamberi road project under the PPP project, said a senior official.

It was revealed at a meeting held recently where Works Secretary Nalinikant Pradhan made a presentation.

The entire Project cost is `221.87 crore and VGF sought from the Union Government is `44.37 crore, said sources.

After the elevated corridor is built, commercial vehicles would not be allowed to move on the city roads during the day time.

Now it is expected that with construction of elevated corridor, the ore laden vehicles will move smoothly and there will be hardly any congestion and pollution due to running of over large fleet of commercial vehicles.

Similarly, the 4.8-km-long Joda-Bamberi road would be improved under this project. The road is full of potholes and in a very bad condition now.
