At least three people were injured when a tiger attacked them at a village under Udala block in Mayurbhanj district on Thursday.
Reports said that in the early morning, one person was injured in the attack as the tiger had strayed into the village. The injured Hari Murmu was admitted to the Udala Community Health Centre (CHC).
After this incident, panic gripped the sub-divisional headquarters town of Udala. later in the day, the big cat attacked two more persons and inured them. They were identified as Kusha Behera and Ranjan Bindhani, who were also admitted to the CHC.
Forest officials rushed to the area and tried to capture the tiger. They suspected that the tiger strayed into the human habitation from the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR).
While the officials have encircled the area to catch the tiger, they have appealed to the people not to pelt stones nor do any such activity which would irritate the animal and make it more violent.
“We are trying our best to bring the tiger into our clutches before it injures more villagers. We are trying to tranquilise the tiger,” a forest official said.
