Police on Thursday arrested three persons on the charge of demanding extortion money from a contractor.
The arrestees were identified as Dipti Ranjan Nanda of Madhusudanpur village and his two associates Asif Khan and Smruti Ranjan Panda.
Sources said the contractor Ajit Swain had lodged a complaint with the Jagatsinghpur police alleging that Dipti had hatched a plan to abduct his site engineer Rajesh Kuanir and two others when they refused to pay the extortion money.
Several times, Dipti’s men had been contacting the site engineer demanding money, but the employee asked them to communicate with the contactor about their demand.
Jagatsinghpur police station IIC Rajanikanta Mishra said that responding the complaint, the police arrested Dipti and his associates from his native village.
