Police on Tuesday arrested three Congress workers in connection with the artificial flooding in the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) office here on Monday.
The Nayapalli police had picked up the three workers from their homes on late Monday night on the charge of damaging public property.
later, in protest against the arrests, hundreds of Congress workers and leaders gheraoed the police station demanding the release of the arrestees. However, police said as allegations have been levelled against the workers, they would be forwarded to court. But in future they would ensure that no one is picked up at night. But the agitators said they would intensify their agitation and hold protests if the administration fails to solve the basic problems affecting the citizens.
Notably, after waterlogging wreaked havoc in the city and many vehicles were stranded in neck deep water, the Congress workers led by district president Manas Chaudhury poured tanker load of water in the NHAI office damaging many files alleging reticent attitude by the concerned agencies in solving the waterlogging woes.
