The Samajwadi Party on Monday urged Governor SC Jamir to take appropriate steps for implementation of 27-per cent reservation in the fields of employment and education for the students and youths of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) in the State.

In a memorandum to the Governor, party State president Rabi Behera requested him to take immediate steps in the matter as admissions to various colleges and universities and technical institutions would begin within a week.

In his party’s six-point charter of demands, Behera demanded hostels for OBC students at every district headquarters with a focus on OBC women students and stipends for higher studies.

“When the State has implemented reservation of seats for OBCs in Panchayati Raj, Municipalities and Zilla Parishads which is working smoothly, what is the harm of extending it to the Assembly and Parliamentary elections,” asked Behera.
