A team of the Excise Intelligence Bureau (EIB) seized ganja weighing 260 kg that was being transported from Gajapati district to Khordha on Sunday.

The excise officials intercepted a pickup van near an over-bridge at Gopalpur junction and seized the contraband kept in five bags and the vehicle. They also arrested one Ranjan Kumar Nayak of the Podamari area in this connection. The worth of the seized contraband item was estimated at Rs 13 lakh. IIC Arun Padhee, SI G Rama Rao and Inspector Ranjan Nayak were preset, among others. during the raid.

It is generally alleged that though ganja in huge quantities is being transported to other districts from Gajapati every week, there is no monitoring system for this. Many youths have been detained in similar incidents in the district.
