Paddy purchasing agency, NAKAF, purchased 2.52 lakh quintals of paddy without the Paddy Procurement Automation System (PPAS) in Bargarh district during Kharif season. Now, Rabi season procurement is going on. More than 3,000 duplicate farmers have got `36 crore for paddy procurement in Kharif season, sources said.
The Bargarh district ARCS office and civil societies have no evidence on purchase of 2.52 lakh quintals of paddy. In past, corruption was noted in paddy procurement by MARFED.
After allegation of similar corruption in paddy procurement by the NAKAF, the Government has instructed to purchase paddy through on-line system in Bargarh district.
The farmers should get their payment through on- line as per the new guidelines. But the NAKAF is paying through check and even some farmers have got double the MSP. The Jay Kishan Andolan Committee, Bargarh, led by Ramesh Mohapatra has demanded a Vigilance inquiry into the matter.
