Police and officials of the labour Department rescued at least 25 children all under the age of 14, who were illegally employed by various hotel and dhaba owners and bakery units across Jajpur district, on Wednesday and Thursday.
“We carried out searches at hotels and dhabas in the Jajpur Road and Jajpur Town areas and rescued 19 children from six hotels and dhabas. We also rescued five child labourers from a bakery unit and one from an ice cream unit in Jajpur Road during the two-day long raids. Our aim was to rescue the children and send them to schools. We have tied up with various schools which will adopt these children and provide them free education. All the rescued children were produced before the District Child Welfare Committee,” said District labour Officer Kuber Behera.
