Acting tough on dereliction of duty, the Nabarangpur district Collector has dismissed as many as 24 teachers who were on leave for several years despite receiving salary.
The teachers were allegedly not coming to the educational institutions since 2010 without any leave applications.
As the matter came to the fore, a probe was ordered in this regard. Subsequently, the School and Mass Education Department directed the District Education Officer to take action against the absentees.
Accordingly, the district administration had in July last year written to all Block Education Officers to submit a report on the matter.
Further investigation revealed that as many as 31 teachers were absent in such a manner. While show-cause notices were served to all of them, the now-dismissed 24 teachers didn’t reply within the stipulated 15 days, for which the action was taken against them.
