As many as 223 Gram Rojgar Sevaks(GRS) of Sundargarh district were disengaged from their job by the Sundargarh Collector on Wednesday for their absence from duty on account of the ongoing case work agitation demanding fulfilment of their various demands.

Sources said the Gram Rojgar Sevaks have been on an agitation since November 15 to fulfil their various demands, including regularisation of job. Due to the absence of GRSs from their duty, lots of difficulties have been witnessed in the developmental work.

Although the GRSs were asked to withdraw their agitation but they have not yet conceded. The association of GRS had decided not to withdraw the agitation till their demands were fulfilled. Panchayati Raj Secretary Deb Ranjan Kumar Singh had written recently to all the Collectors to take necessary action in this regard.

According to sources, the Panchayati Raj Department had issued show cause notice on December 21 and had sought the reply of show cause by December 27 to the agitators.

“It is unfair that they were disengaged from their job although they have been doing agitation in a peaceful manner,” said State president, AITUC Ashok Das. “We will decide our next course of action against the disengagement soon,” he added.\
