In yet another shocking incident in the Pipili area of Puri district, a 22-year-old woman was kidnapped and allegedly gangraped on Sunday evening.
According to reports, four unidentified youths barged into the house of the victim, who lives in a village in Teisipur panchayat under the Satasankha outpost under the jurisdiction of the Pipili police station in Puri district at about 7 pm when no male member of the family was present. The women members tried to resist the youths but failed. The attackers then dragged the victim into a Tata Sumo jeep and fled the spot.
The victim’s relatives reported the matter to the Satasankha police. While the police were on the lookout for the kidnappers, the culprits, after apparently gangraping the girl, threw her out of the vehicle at a distance from her house and disappeared.
However, a medical examination of the woman could prove whether she was subjected to gangrape or only tortured or both,
The victim, who managed to reach home, fell unconscious and was rushed to the Government hospital at Sakhigopal, from where she was shifted to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. But after her condition became critical, she had to be shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack.
Till the filing of the report, the victim had not regained her consciousness. Sources in the locality said that the incident was the fallout of a failed love affair and that a youth of the village along with his friends from Dandamukundapur area are said to be involved in the incident. While the police have raided several areas of Dandamukundapur, they were yet to nab the culprits.
