The Commissionerate police on Saturday rounded up as many as 22 persons in connection with the violence at Munda Sahi under the Mancheswar police station of Bhubaneswar on Friday night that left at least six persons injured.

Police forces were deployed to prevent the situation from deteriorating further.

As per reports, a mob of around 50 youths swooped down on Mundasahi and went on a rampage. The attackers who were armed with swords, lathis and other weapons attacked everybody who came their way. They also damaged auto-rickshaws, two-wheeler and even some houses.

All these mayhem has been captured on CCTV cameras on the basis of which the cops are on the lookout for the other accused.

Six persons, including a minor and a woman, were injured. They were immediately rushed to the Capital Hospital here.

While two critically injured were undergoing treatment at the hospital, four others have been discharged after preliminary treatment.

“About 50-60 people came all of a sudden with daggers and swords. Before we could reckon anything, they started attacking us. Some residents ran  for their lives into their homes to protect themselves, but the assailants did not spare anyone, said an injured youth Jagannath Sirka.

“I had locked myself in my house as I was alone when the attackers came in inebriated condition and broke into my house. They attacked me with weapon,” alleged a woman who sustained injuries to her head.

Later, the locals of Mundasahi blocked the National Highway 16 near Palasuni demanding immediate arrest of miscreants involved in the attack. The police rushed to the spot and pacified with the protestors following which the blockade was withdrawn.

The incident was fallout of a trivial matter in which an argument between a youth of Munda Sahi and another of Sriram Sahi over mobile  messaging led to the violence, sources said.

However, some locals said though the Mancheswar police station was only one km away, even though the police were informed they did not respond to their distress calls.
