A 21-year-old girl of Raiklala village under the Ghagarbeda police station of Mayurbhanj district tried to kill herself by pouring kerosene on her and setting her ablaze after she was betrayed in love affair. She received 45 per cent burn injuries and was being treated at the Champua Sub Divisional Hospital. The girl was in love with Prema Maharana of the same village. On March 4, 2007, they had absconded from the village. On Tuesday night, Prema, however, abandoned the girl threatening her not to plead for marriage. Soon, she burnt herself in front of Prem’s house. Champua Tehsildar Narayan Chandra Dhala and local police station IIC recorded her statement. Meanwhile, the relatives of the girl alleged that Prem was planning to get rid of the girl and hence, was harassing her.
