The State Cabinet on Monday approved repeal of as many as 206 Acts of the State Legislature Assembly enacted during the years 1974 to 2016 identified by the Law Department for their repeal in consultation with the concerned administrative departments as they have become redundant.
Most of the said Acts are amending Acts, and after they came into force, the amendments sought to be made by them get lodged in the respective principal Acts. Hence, there is no necessity to retain these Acts. Besides, some Acts enacted for a particular purpose as onetime measure have lost their necessity.
The State Law Commission had recommended for repeal of these 206 Acts to remove confusion from public mind and also contribute to ‘Good Governance’.
Accordingly, the Cabinet decided to accept the recommendation and take steps for enactment of the Odisha Repealing Bill, 2020, which would repeal the 206 Acts.
