The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought an action taken report from the Odisha Human Rights Commission regarding the death of a physically challenged person by starvation in Angul district.
Taking cognisance of a complaint filed by civil society organisation Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain on January 7, 2018, NHRC sought the report from OSHRC.
Swain in her complaint alleged that a backward class physically challenged person Birendra Naik of Kutteswar under the Athamallik police station in Angul district died without food and water in the Bhima Bhoi Handicapped camp organised by Government at Atthamallik High School on November 3, 2017.
