Traffic came to a standstill on the busy National Highway-16 in front of the ISKCON temple here on Monday after a moving car caught fire.
Fortunately, the driver managed to escape unhurt before the fire engulfed the Tata Indigo vehicle. There was no other occupant in the car.
The fire was so intense that the vehicle was completely gutted by the time Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot to douse the flame.
Though it was still unclear what triggered the fire in the vehicle, police said the matter would be investigated. A number of vehicles particularly cars have in the recent past caught fire in the city while being on the move. But thankfully no lives have been lost. But surprisingly the Transport Department hasn’t given a thought to this.
