Wife killer gets life imprisonment in Nimapara
Nimapara: Additional District and Sessions Judge Pradeep Pattanaik on Thursday awarded life imprisonment to Prafulla Barik, a resident of Olamara under the Gop police limits, for murdering his wife Devi Bairk of Dhanakoti Sahi of Puri town with a cub. A case had been filed Devi’s mother laxmipriya Barik at the Gop PS on October 26, 2011. Additional PP Brahmananda Pradhan was conducting the case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on the accused, who would undergo a year of extra imprisonment if he does not pay the fine.
Subarnapur BJP executive meet held
Sonepur: The BJP’s Subarnapur district executive body met under the chairmanship of president Bijaya Mahakur here on Wednesday. BJP legislature Party leader KV Singh Deo and the party’s national observer Amitabh Chakrabarty gracing as guests spoke about inefficiencies of the State Government and urged members to strengthen the party at grassroots level. Among others, former MP Sangita Kumari Singh Deo, district VP Ratha Sahu, general secretary Mahendra Mahananda, State executive body member Pramod Mahapatra, Suresh Mahala, ZP Chairman Usha Kumari, Vice-Chairman Rudra Kishore Mahala and Ananda Barik were present. Man dies of snakebite in JSpur
Jagatsinghpur: Sarat Sethy (32) of Hurasahi village in Alando panchayat under Biridi block died due to snakebite while sleeping in his house late on Tuesday night. Sethy, a farm labourer, had been taken to the Biridi CHC, where the doctor declared him brought dead. A palm of gloom descended on the area Sethy’s death.
