An armed woman Maoist surrendered before the Rourkela police and CRPF here on Wednesday. She was active in Odisha and Jharkhand border areas.
The surrendered Maoist was identified as Muli Nayak (22) alias Arati, hailing from Jharkhand. Arati along with two other girls Chandini and Sundarmani was forcibly taken by one Gunga Munda in 2010 at the age of 13 and motivated to join the CPI (Maoist) organisation. She was given training in handling arms like INSAS Rifles, AK-47 and other weapons.
She was an active cadre of Sambalpur-Deogarh-Sundargarh division under the leadership of Anmol. She was involved in encounters between Maoists and police at Asurkhol Parah, Kelo, Jamdar, Bitkilsoya in Rourkela police district and many other incidents.
In December 2016, she managed to escape from the clutches of the ultras when they had visited her village. A reward of Rs 1 lakh was declared on her head. She said she left the Maoist organisation because of disillusionment.
