Indian sprinters may reach on July 3 for Asian meet

Indian athletic camp for the 22nd Asian Athletic Championship at Kalinga Stadium may be delayed.  As per the information provided by AFI officials the National camp will start from June 20 at Kalinga Stadium. Altogether 168 athletes will join the camp. As per their requirement we made everything well organised to accommodate the players, said Sports and Youth Affairs Department secretary Vishal Dev. Earlier, legendry sprinter PT Usha visited the venue and gave the suggestions regarding hosting the camp here. It is always better to have camp in the same place where the meet will be conducted. The Sri lankan team will reach her on July 20 to give exposer to their players to the new venue and also acclimatise with the condition, added Dev. The newly relaid eight lane synthetic track in the main stadium as well the practice track is all set to host the international meet. The floodlight installation was completed. Only the beautification work is on full swing to be furnished soon, added Dev.  In other hand AFI already started a National Camp at Patiala from July 15 mainly for the sprinters. But the AFI secretary who is here said that “We will start national camp here at Kalinga Stadium from June 20, but i can not say whether the full Indian team will be here for the camp on not. As some of the athletes will go overseas to participate in international event before the Asian Athletics Championship”.

Sources said, the Indian 4X100 men and women relay team is having a trail at Patial on June 30 and some sprinters will participate in Kazakhstan open athletic meet at Almaty to be held from June 23 to 24. It can well assume that the spiriting team may reach here on July 3 for the Asian Athletic meet.
