Acting on a petition that 35 villagers in Koraput district were deprived of social security scheme and even electricity even after six decades of independence, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the Chief Secretary to submit an action-taken report (ATR).
Angul-based Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain alleged that 35 villagers of Nimalpadu village in Sunki gram panchayat under Pottangi block in Koraput district are deprived from road, medical, electricity, BPl, ration card, facilities under Right to Food and other basic facilities.
The commission has sought ATR within six weeks.
“Due to inefficiency of the Government authorities, poor tribal people being deprived of basic amenities violating their human rights,” Swain contended. She prayed the commission to ensure criminal action against the concerned Government officials and direct the Government to facilitate early availability of basic needs in these villages.
