Expressing concern over the failure on the part of the Kamakshayanagar police in Dhenkanal district in arresting murder and kidnap accused, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the Odisha Human Rights Commission for a probe.
Basing on a petition filed by Human Rights Watch secretary and rights campaigner Sangita Swain which alleged that the Kamakshayanagar police have failed to made any breakthrough in the murder of one Prabir Sahu of Aantpur area and kidnap of two girls, the apex human rights watchdog transferred the case to the OHRC asking it to dispose of the case in accordance with the law.
The petitioner alleged that Prabir Sahu, a resident of Anantpur under the Kamakshyanagar police limits was brutally murdered on October 20, 2015. Till date no arrest has been made.
Similarly, two minor girls were also kidnapped in the same police station area.
“The police are yet to make any breakthrough in the two cases violating the human rights of the victims and their kin,” alleged Swain.
She had urged the commission to order for criminal/disciplinary action against the concerned police officials and `20 lakh compensation to the next of the deceased.
