In yet another man-animal conflict, a male wild boar was lynched to death at Gajarajpur village under the Rajnagar police station in Kendrapada district on Sunday.

Sources said the wild boar weighing around 80 kg entered into the Gajarajpur village after sneaking out of Gobardhanpur Forest under the Bhitarkanika National Park. After unearthing it on the village road, the villagers went on attacking the animal and lynched it to death.

Getting information, forest personnel of the Rajnagar Forest Range rushed to the village and recovered the dead boar from a pond and later conducted its postmortem.

Meanwhile, the forest officials registered a case against some villagers under the offences of the Wildlife Protection Act for their involvement in killing the boar. Inquiry is on; however, no arrest has been made so far, said Rajnagar Forest Ranger Harekrushna Mallick.
