2 irrigation staffs held for tender fixing
Bhubaneswar: The Nayagarh police on Tuesday arrested two irrigation officials on charges of attempting tender fixing. The Town police arrested an Executive Engineer and an Estimator of the Irrigation Department and forwarded them to court. It was alleged that they were resorted to unfair means to allot tender to a person they know.
According to sources, several persons had applied for a project. But their bid was equal. Hence, the officials decided to choose one from among them through ‘Dharmagula’ (toss). But the two arrested officials printed a single name on the five sheets of papers before the toss.
This came to the fore when opponent parties opened the other paper pieces. They then went to the police station and lodged an FIR against concerned officials. Meanwhile, Water Resources Secretary Pradeep Jena said stringent action would be taken against all those who would be found guilty.
