A day after 150 Maoist supporters surrendered in Malkangiri, an armed woman CPI (Maoist) cadre belonging to the Saranda Sub Zonal Committee, Swapna Honhaga alias Niharika alias Muni, surrendered before the police and CRPF personnel at the Bisra police station here on Wednesday.

Rourkela Additional SP SK Jamadar informed this at a Press meet. He said Swapna had joined the Maoist camp in 2011 after being motivated by Raju and Nepali Devgam who have already been arrested. She then joined Sandeep alias Motilal Soren group which had exchanged fire with police on February 13, 2014 in the Rangra jungle in which a cadre, Saka Kerai alias Selai, had been caught. She left the wing in June 2015 as she didn’t like mindless killing of innocent Adivasis in the name of police informer.

She too stated that her mother Palo Hanhaga is also a Maoist cadre and currently operating in the group of Chaman in Kolhan area of Jharkhand. Swapna originally belongs to Baliba under Chhotnagra PS of West Singhbhum district.

On Tuesday, about 150 Maoist supporters, including four members of the ultra outfit and two village committee members, had surrendered before the police in Malkangiri district.

Irked over the unabated Maoist violence in their localities, the villagers preferred to surrender before the police, Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra told reporters at Malkangiri.

The people belonging to Gumkaguda and Intaguda villages of Chitragapalli gram panchayat under Kalimela police station came to the district police headquarters and surrendered, said Mohapatra.

He said he would examine whether these people could be covered under any rehabilitation scheme or not.

The four youths, who worked for the Maoists for a long time, said they were forced to do the job.

lauding the people who abandoned the Maoists, SP Mohapatra said he was expecting other villagers to follow the suit. Earlier, residents of Silakota under Padia block had also surrendered on August 31, the SP informed.
