Class VI boy drowns in pond in Athagarh
Athagarh: An 11-year-old boy, Abinash Behera, of Bidanasi in Cuttack drowned in a pond at Jenapada village here on Monday morning. The incident took place when Abinash went to the pond with his grandfather for bathing and his legs slipped into the deep water. Reports said Abinash, a Class-VI student of the DAV Public School, CDA had gone to his maternal grand-father’s house for vacation after his annual examination. Though some villagers fished him out of the water, he was found dead.
Man suspected to be killed in M’bhanj
Baripada: A man of around 40 years was found dead near Badanalua under the Bisoi police station in Mayurbhanj on Monday morning. It is suspected that he was killed. While the body has not been identified, the police registered a case of murder and began investigation.
Rajasthani fest ‘Gangore’ celebrated at Banpur
Banpur: Gangore, the festival of Rajasthan, was celebrated with much enthusiasm by the Marawari Society of Banpur for two days on Sunday and Monday. The Gangore Puja begins by Kumaris and newly-wed women for 17 days beginning from the festival of Holi. The Puja mainly observed to worship goddess Parvati for a happy marriage life. On the last day, married women conducted all the rituals and sang Marwari Bhajans. On Monday, emersion of idols was held at the tank of Dakhya Prajapati temple. Among others, Radha Agrawal, Annapurna Agrawal, Simle Agrawal and Meera Devi participated.
Subarnapur RI held taking bribe
Sonepur: Vigilance sleuths on Monday arrested Revenue Inspector (RI) Arun Kumar Purohit of Khari Circle under Sonepur tehsil in Subarnapur district for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 2,500 from one Mukteswar Pradhan. The RI demanded bribe from Pradhan to release the latter’s tractor and stones that were seized. As per the direction of Vigilance SP of Sambalpur Division lK Jal, a trap was laid and Purohit was caught red-handed. Earlier on March 20, Purohit had taken Rs 700 from Pradhan.
