Paradip Congress holds get-together
Paradip: The Paradip Town Congress organised a get-together on Sunday at the Nuabazar Kalyani Mandap. Paradip Town Congress president Ranjan Kumar Das presided over the meeting. PCC member Pramod Kishor Jena, former MP Bibhu Prasad Tarai, Arabinda (Bapi) Sarkhel, State Youth Congress president Santosh Kumar Biswal, Manoj Kumar Biswal, Khulana Jena, Kamala Ojha and several other leaders called upon party workers to be united and fight against the corruption of the ruling BJD.
Five anti-socials held in Jagatsinghpur
Jagatsinghpur: The Paradip lock police arrested five anti-socials at Singitali Chhak on the outskirts of Paradip on Friday night. The cops also seized a few lethal weapons, two crude bombs, two bikes and mobile phones from their possession. The five culprits are the residents of Kujanga and Patamundai areas. While patrolling, the police found them in inebriated conditions. During interrogation, they confessed that they were planning to commit a crime in Kujanga area. Police records reveal that several cases have been pending against them at different police stations in Kendrapada and JSpur districts.
JSpur woman commits suicide
Jagatsinghpur: Tuni Das, a middle-aged woman hailing from Jhimani village near Kujanga area, is reported to have committed suicide at her residence on Friday. Her body was hanging from a ceiling fan. Sources said that the woman had been suffering from one curious disease for the past two years. After losing hope from life, the woman chose this extreme step. Police recovered the dead body and registered an unnatural death case after conducting postmortem.
New ADJ Court opened at Bonei
Rourkela: Odisha High Court Chief Justice Amitava Roy on Saturday inaugurated the Additional District and Sessions Judge Court at Bonei in the presence of High Court judges Justices Bijay Krishna Patel and Sanjay Kumar Mishra, Sundargarh Collector Bhupinder Singh Punia, Sundargarh and Rourkela SPs. On the occasion Ganeswar Pati has also joined as Additional District-cum-Sessions Judge.
Water Week observed at Phulbani
Phulbani: The India Water Week was observed here at the district Collectorate between January 13 and 17. Being organised by the Kandhamal Irrigation Division, Central Water Commission Director Ajaya Kumar Pradhan, Additional District Magistrate Pradipta Kumar Sahani, Minor Irrigation Executive Engineer Ramesh Chandra Sabat attended the event on different days and highlighted the importance of the week. The Executive Engineer also made a powerpoint presentation on how to save and utilise water.
Balangir Mahotsav kicked off
Balangir: District Collector M Muthukumar on Sunday initiated the 15th Balangir lok Mahotsav by performing Puja and hoisting the festival flag at the Kosal Kala Mandal. A theatre march led by the Collector and others, in which artists and different cultural troupes participated, went through the town.
Mini marathon held at Baripada
Baripada: A mini marathon was held here on Saturday to mark the 26th National Road Safety Week. The marathon, flagged of by Mayurbhanj ADM SC Mallick, started from the lord Jagannath temple and terminated at Palabani. local RTO Sharat Kumar Das coordinated the programme.
