SAI win in FAO 1st Div Football league
Bhubaneswar: Racing from the back Sports Authority of India (SAI) of Cuttack Centre edged out Sports Hostel by 4-2 goals in the FAO 1st Division Football league at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Sunday.
Bikash Chandra Padhiary of the Sports Hostel netted the first goal in the 20th minute. Manoj Murmu scored the equaliser in the 30th minute. Just after two minutes his-mate Chandan Hembram scored a goal and SAI registered 2-1 lead in the first half.
After the change of sides, Chandan scored another goal in the 52th minute and SAI gathered 3-1 goals lead. In the 58th minute D Srinath of Sports Hostel netted a goal and reduce the margin. In the league round matches, Radharaman Club would meet Independent Club on Monday.
Manas bags Makhanlal Open Chess titles
Bhubaneswar: Manas Parida scored eight points by the end of ninth round and emerged champion in the 20th Makhanlal Halder Memorial All Odisha Open Chess Championship, which concluded at Durgabaadi Samiti in Puri on Sunday, being organised by Puri District Chess Association.
Bira K Behera and P Ojha scored eight and 7.5 points and finished second and third respectively. Sanghamitra Singh and Arati Bijay Mohanty scored six and 6.5 points and bagged the best women and best veteran players of the tournament respectively.
Sri Jagannath Sanskrit Viswavidyalaya vice chancellor Dr Gangadhar Panda distributed the prizes as the chief guest of the closing ceremony. Among others, Puri District Chess Association president Sri Kumar Halder, secretary Bimal Prasad Mohanty, vice president Srinibas Acharya, adviser Dibakar Tripathy and Arati Bijay Mohanty were present.
