PPT trustee invited to Int’l port workers’ meet
Paradip: Former Rajya Sabha MP and president of Indian National Port and Dock Workers’ Federation Prabhat Samantaray has been invited by the apex international body of the port and dock workers to attend its 43rd Congress at Sofia in Bulgaria to be held from August 10 to 16 this year. Samantray, also a PPT trustee, has been working for the welfare of the port, dock and transport workers since long.
Ex-DI of Schools found hanging in K’pada
Kendrapada: A septuagenarian retired District Inspector (DI) of Schools of Kendrapara, Somanatha Mishra, a resident of Garapur village under Kendrapara Sadar police limits, on Wednesday was found dead by hanging himself at his house, said Kendrapada IIC Sarat Chandra Patra. After getting information, a police team rushed to the spot and later seized the body and sent it for autopsy to the district headquarters hospital. The deceased’s son Surendranath Mishra on Wednesday lodged an FIR at the Kendrapara Sadar PS and police later registered a case. An inquiry is on to establish if Mishra was murdered. However, preliminary investigation shows Mishra had a family dispute over land provoking him to take the extreme step.
Simulia tehsil clerk held taking bribe
Baleswar: Vigilance sleuths on Thursday caught Jagannath Behera, a Clerk at Simulia tehsil office, red-handed while accepting a graft of Rs 4,000 from a person in a land-related case.
