Woman commits suicide over dowry harassment
Rourkela: Unable to bear constant torture for dowry, a 24-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging on Saturday night at her in-laws’ house at Kumjharia lase basti under Biramitrapur police station limits in the district here. The victim was identified as Jyoti Singh (24). She had married with Manoj Singh (28) seven years back after falling in love. But her in-laws had been demanding her get more dowries. After Jyoti’s father Parmesh Singh lodged a complaint of dowry torture with Birmitrapur police, the victim’s father-in-law, mother-in-law and husband were arrested and later forwarded to court, said Biramitrapur IIC l Bhoi.
Phulbani school boy killed in road mishap
Phulbani: A 10-year-old-student of St Catherine School died in a road mishap here on Monday. The incident happened when a tractor hit a bike by which Deepak Sahu of Class-IV was going to school with his father. The boy, who flew off the bike, crashed against a log of wood on the roadside and died on the spot. Soon, local people blocked the road and demanded compensation of Rs 15 lakh to the bereaved family.
