‘lack of coach, platform will spoil weightlifting’

Bhubaneswar : Believe it or not without coach, platform and modern equipments but Bhubaneswar Sports Hostel weightlifter bagging medals not in the national level but also in the international arena said Pramila Kirsani on her arrival here on Monday after bagging silver medal in the junior girls 53kg event, by lifting 71kg in snatch and 92kg in clean and jerk in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship, which was held at Malaysia from November 24 to 30.  The State Government is spending crores of rupees for the development of the Kalinga Stadium. But condition of weightlifting hall remains horrible. “First of all we are practicing here without any coach. Recently seven to eight new girls joined the hostel I do not understand without any coach how they will learn weightlifting,” said Pramila. lifting is a dangerous sports in which little bit of mistake will spoil our sporting career, sometimes it may lead to fatal injury. For lifting a minimum a wooden platform is required, which is coasting only Rs 10,000 to 15,000. It provides safety to the players as well as to the floor, added Pramila. In Kalinga Stadium the weightlifting hall is not having any ventilation we use to manage with that, now the toilet water passing through the existing wooden platform. We do our workout in the pungent atmosphere which is not healthy at all. It is better not to discuss about the equipment, if you have the dream to get medals in the international level we should avail the facility to practice with the present modern equipments. Despite of all odds, the lifters of our State are bagging national and international medals every year, said Pramila.
