In a bid to ensure safety and security of women in Bhubaneswar, the Commissionerate police are planning to introduce 200 women-only auto-rickshaws very shortly.
A meeting in this regards was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner of Police Dr RP Sharma on Friday evening which a large number of auto-rickshaw owners and drivers attended. It was decided to run 200 auto-rickshaws in the first phase for women. The colour of these autos would be pink
(border) and it would be numbered serially up to 200 like pink 1, 2, 3, 4.
The special autos would be available or run from the airport, railway station and women’s colleges. The owners of the vehicles were asked to recommend their drivers’ names to the Commissionerate police by December 20, following which
psychological studies would be conducted on them by the police.
At a time, at last three women passengers can travel in a vehicle. If women passengers are not be available, the autos can take male passengers.
