Special Judge POCSO here Ranjan Kumar executing a speedy trial on Monday convicted a rape accused and sentenced him to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 10,000 fine, in default another two years’ jail term.
The convict Muna Hansda of village Basudebpur of Baliapal block had committed the offence in July 2022 and the mother of the five-year-old victim had lodged a complaint with the Singla police that the accused in the absence of other family members in day hours sexually assaulted the girl. Police arrested the accused following investigation.
“The accused was tried under Sections 376(AB) of IPC and 6 of POCSO Act and the case is disposed of within six months. The court convicted Hansda. The court further directed for Rs 4-lakh compensation to the victim through the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA),” said Special Public Prosecutor Pranab Kumar Panda.
