A blood donation camp was held in the Community Health Centre at Khariar on Sunday. It was organised jointly by the CHC and NGO SAI.
Twenty youths of the district donated blood in this camp. Khariar CHC, as a First Referral Unit (FRU), is one of the busiest health centres in the district. More than 70 per cent of the patients here are women and children.
At least 300 institutional deliveries on an average are conducted every month out of which about 40 per cent cases happen to be anaemic. The blood unit at Khariar was non-functional for over four years, which was creating much hardship for poor women.
About 10 to 12 per cent of the critical delivery cases are being referred to the DHH every month.
“The blood unit has been made functional recently and the blood collected from the donors of this camp would be stored here after proper testing in the DHH,” said the hospital sources.
“Blood donation camps will be held regularly now onwards,” said Jitendra Pattnaik, social worker of the district, adding that, the next camp is going to be held at Duajhar village of Khariar block after Dussehra Puja. Medical Officer Dr PC Achary, Dr D Mahanand and Prasanna Sahu of Khariar CHC were present.
