20-time power cuts in capital in a day!

Published on:

How far would people believe the State Government’s unending promises for welfare measures for them is perhaps evident from the frequent undeclared power cuts they suffer particularly at a time when the State is in the grip of an intense heat wave.

One remembers the then Energy Minister Pranab Prakash Das having boastfully announced before the onset of summer that there would be no power cuts.

The capital city of Bhubaneswar is witnessing intolerable disruptions in power supply umpteen number of times in day and night hours. And on Monday, the malady crossed all limits with many areas in the city being subjected power cuts of different durations for as many as about twenty times by early evening. What fate the citizens would have in night was a matter of further concern.

When this is the situation in Bhubaneswar, the people in lesser towns and villages are much worse suffering lots.

Present Energy Minister Prafulla Mallick, strangely, says his department is not resorting to any power cuts, and what is happening is for the sake of “maintenance” in the system. But does not his contention point to the department’s utter failure in providing serviceIJ
